So the Twerp has been going to a pre-school when she turned 3. I am deciding whether to keep her there for kinder or move her to a big school. In the big school, she would be in Kinder 1. If we postpone it for next year, then she will start at Kinder 2. I didn’t think I would have so many considerations in choosing her school but the closer she is to school age, the more issues come up for me. To make my search organized, I listed them down.
- Traditional v.s. progressive
- Non-sectarian v.s. Catholic
- Trial
- Student-teacher ratio
- Additional/miscellaneous fees
- Bullying incidence
- Quality of teachers
- Coed
- Cafeteria food
- Activities and make-up classes on Saturdays
- Distance
- School service
I did not list tuition fee for my consideration because I think all these schools are within the same range except for #3. But I want to know if there are other miscellaneous or additional fees on top of the tuition.
- OB Montessori
- Colegio de San Agustin
- Pasay City Adventist Academy
- Poveda
- St. Paul’s Pasig
- Saint Gabriel School International
- Montessori de San Juan
- GCF International Christian School
I haven’t yet gone to these schools to inquire. All I know are from their websites and from forums. I need to do this to clarify some things that are not on their websites. Any comment, feedback or information would be most helpful.

I’m not yet a mom but I have nephews and niece around. Based on experience, sending the child to a christian school is much better than any private school. The curriculum may not differ so much but what is essential is the christian values taught even ourside the classroom. Good luck, sis with your decision.
Happy 2013!
Mommy, pre-school pa lang yan ha. Imagine my nightmare choosing high school then college (for my eldest). My eldest went to school early (kaya she entered college at 15)at 3. Make sure you enroll her in a school where all activities are age-appropriate. Like, you cant force a 3 year old to read or write yet. They have to develop first their tactile by having manipulatives like blocks etc. Learning through play and arts and crafts are best for her age.
ay pareho kami. 15 din ako nag college and graduated at 19. she’s doing well in her pre-school learning the basics and the school is big on arts and crafts and performing like singing and dancing. kaya i might keep her there for kinder because it’s near but i also want to do my research early for the big school.
i agree with your considerations. My son will be three in June and we are considering to send him to pre-school already. Good thing there is a school few lots away from our house.
we’re lucky her preschool is just around the corner. that’s why i want to keep her there for kinder.
Good luck on finding your little one the perfect school.
I feel that it is best to visit the schools with your gal to see which one both or you are most comfortable with before switching her out.
I’m from the province and there’s just a few options. I chose the school which I attended when I was younger as well. With the K+12 well, the kids should be well prepared. Nursery is usually mostly playing, singing. It gets tougher in Kinder.
I would have chosen the school I attended because it meets all my considerations except one. It’s so so so far away from our home.
St. Paul Pasig!
I might be biased but it is a good school. hihi They incorporate religion, good manners and high standard of education
I gather you’re a Paulinian
via is a toddler, its her time for great cognitive, emotional and social development, i know a school that will support her developmental needs, i will recommend community of learners (COL), my panganay finished his pre-school and grade school there, its a great school, an alternative one, you can google it
Thanks Max! I’ll check it out.
My son is two and I want him to play with other kids that is why we’ve enrolled him in a toddler school near our place. The near school the better for me for now.
Thats what my friends say. Go for the school near our home. It’s not like in my school days even if I lived far away traffic wasn’t this bad.
One of the critical choices that parents need to make. You’re doing your homework well…hope you get to choose the best for your little Twerp
choosing the right school for your child is really hard. you are going to check their standing and credibility as it’s your child education which is at risk.
My wife and I are also contemplating on what school we’ll enroll our 3-year old son here in Dubai. Schools here are expensive, and seldom are considered “good” schools. I hope you’ll decide on yours soon.
Sending our kids to school is really a tough decision noh? I mean we as parents need to consider a lot of things. Hayst… I hope that this year we can stand up on our feet and can send my eldest to pre-school
Hi JellyBelly! I transferred my eldest child to a big school when he entered Grade 1 already. We pretty much have the same qualms and considerations. It helped me decide where to enroll him when I did an ocular because that’s one of my considerations as well, the school’s environment and security. Good luck on school hunting and pray over your decision sis! By the way! We live near each other I think, by your school choices.
I thought of that, waiting until grade one but I hear that slots are limited then and we might not get in the school we want. I keep hearing enroll as early as possible. Hay. It’s difficult pala to make a decision like this.
Ive no idea about the list, but good luck to finding the right one for your little kid:)
sounds like our dilemma when my daughter is about to go to a big school. we ended up sending her to a public school with a good reputation. she’s doing great if you ask me. she’s been participating (and winning) a lot of quiz bees and other activities.
good luck sis. i hope you find the right one soon.
My kids are aged 3 and 4 and would be staying one more year in their current preschool. But I’m also looking for big schools already so we’ll be able to arrive at a well-thought decision for their education. Those schools that you mentioned aren’t on my list though as we’re far from them. Among those I’m considering are Diliman Prep, UPIS, The Learning Tree, and Ingenium.
I have a co worker whose children went to the Learning Tree. They’re doing really well. One is in college in Ateneo, the other one in Singapore.
My kids are older now but as parents, we know our kids best. You have done a lot of research and the next step is to sit and evaluate the schools and decide which will be best for your child. Best wishes. Happy New year.

I hear a lot of good things about OB Montessori especially for pre-school and elementary.
But yeah, it also helps you decide if you make an ocular and talk to teachers. Good luck!
good luck in your search in finding a good school for the twerp..
There are so many things to consider when choosing a school for our children, right? I might have to look back on your list when I will be on the hunt for our 2nd baby’s pre-school. I think he should be in a progressive school. And a Christian one, too!
as i read your post looks like its not easy to decide about via’s school, me and my brother just went to a public school
hope you can choose a satisfactory school for her
Moms always choose the best for their child so I know you’ll be doing the same.
There is K-12 education you have to consider if you live in the Philippines. It is better to inquire now. Children’s brains are like sponges. I believe in starting them early to motivate them.
I think all schools are now following K12. My co worker mentioned that her some skipped grade 1 and went to grade 2 from prep for the school year 2012-2013 in preparation for K12. So there’s no choice now.
Hi Sis! As for me, I have enrolled my daughter in a small school (Montessori) when she is in the primary. It’s because I wanted her to be given proper attention which kids never get from big schools with bigger population. Mas personalized kasi ang learning experience. When she gets into high school, that’s the time that I moved her to a bigger school so she could have a bigger world and I think that that is the right time for her as she is already matured enough to face more challenges of doing extra school activities and meeting more friends. Hope it helps.
This is a very difficult decision which parents have to make. First of all, you have to know the character of your child! Would she do better in a smaller class or a bigger class? Since i know my son to have a strong personality and an only child at that, I though, he should go to a big school and here in ZC, I chose Ateneo De Zamboanga over the Chinese school! One of my thoughts was I would want him to know he is not the best person in the world (to tame down over confidence and make him more humble!) nor is he the worse person in the world! I want him to be able to meet a wider kind of group so he can adjust to the real world better…. BUT, wherever they will be is a risk. We just need to be there to guide them throughout and prepare them for the real world!
When I went to UP, there were quite a lot of students from CSA. I had Poveda and St. Paul Pasig classmates too. But I know that tuition and miscellaneous fees are very high. I hope you find the best school suited for your child.
